How to install MT4 or MT5 on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone
MetaTrader is free. You can get it from three official places only: the maker's own websites, your broker's official website or client area, or the official app stores. Never from a link in a message or advert.
On a Windows computer:
- open the official download page for MT5 (opens in a new tab) or MT4 (opens in a new tab) (or your broker's download page);
- download the Windows version and open the file;
- Windows may ask "Do you want to allow this app to make changes?" — that is normal for an installer from an official source; choose Yes;
- accept the licence and the default folder; when it finishes, MetaTrader opens;
- a window asks you to log in or open an account — you can close it for now.
On a Mac: the same official download pages offer a macOS version. Download it from there and follow the installer's steps.
On a phone: install the app only from the official store — MT5 for iPhone (opens in a new tab), MT5 for Android (opens in a new tab), MT4 for iPhone (opens in a new tab) or MT4 for Android (opens in a new tab). The developer shown should be MetaQuotes. The phone app is good for watching prices and positions; for learning, a computer's bigger screen is easier.
In your browser: MetaQuotes also runs an official web terminal (opens in a new tab), so you can practise without installing anything.
Good to know:
- installing MT5 does not remove MT4 — both can live on one computer;
- a broker's copy may carry its own name and logo; it is still MetaTrader;
- if the installer won't start, check the download finished and your security software didn't stop it — never switch security software off to install something.
